The design at Baccarat’s Madison Avenue flagship translates the formal properties of finely cut crystal into architecture. A bright, two-story glass-frit façade is patterned with a triangular array, creating an illusion of three-dimensionality on a two-dimensional surface. The entryway’s walls are wrapped in faceted strips of Macassar ebony and mirror. This geometry reflects the natural light from the façade as well as an array of tiered grand crystal chandeliers. Nordic black granite is used as a high-contrast backdrop for displays of Baccarat crystal, while niches of white gold leaf highlight special products. Nods to classical French design, such as diamond-patterned details in the wood flooring and ceiling molding, permeate the space. The unique application of these classical features aims to speak to a younger audience while highlighting the craftsmanship and heritage of Baccarat crystal.
