Retail - Facade
RDC/AAL’s facade for the new Kenzo store in Seoul achieves a delicate balance between the eye-catching and the restrained, staking a distinctive place in the already lush commercial neighborhood of Gangnam while harmonizing with its immediate architectural surroundings. The design captures the youthful ebullience of the brand within a measured, alluring approach. Overlaying the pre-existing stone cladding of the building’s facade and its irregular window openings with a grid of powder-coated metal, RDC/AAL’s storefront is a layered composition. A forest of large, vivid conical forms spans a portion of the grid, creating a delicate textural effect at a distance, while up-close evoking a designer’s rack of gargantuan yarn spools.
